Per Ruya Akyol il confine tra vita e lavoro non esiste, e forse non è mai esistito. Il suo studio milanese lo racconta meglio di qualsiasi dichiarazione: uno spazio vivo, dove il progetto evolve ogni giorno a contatto con la realtà. Formata alla Istanbul Technical University, approda a Milano per affinare il suo metodo al Politecnico e alla Domus Academy. Cresce nello studio di Claudio Bellini, poi si sposta a Parigi con Philippe Starck. Sono anni di formazione rigorosa, vissuti dentro studi con linguaggi forti e identità definite. Nel 2021 decide che è il momento di costruire la propria: apre lo studio tra Milano e Istanbul. Un territorio doppio, che rispecchia il suo modo di lavorare. Il suo linguaggio affonda le radici nel Mediterraneo, ma lo attraversa con rigore internazionale. Le scelte materiche sono precise, le soluzioni bespoke ragionate: ogni dettaglio tiene insieme memoria e proiezione, senza nostalgia. Tracing Forward, presentato alla Milano Design Week 2026, è la sintesi di questo approccio. Uno spazio da abitare, oggetti da toccare, esperienze da attraversare. Il design come campo di prova, aperto, tattile, diretto. Una firma già riconoscibile. Una voce che si impone con misura.

The project becomes home, tracing the future while inhabiting the present.

For Ruya Akyol, the boundary between life and work doesn’t exist, or perhaps it never did. Her Milan studio says as much: a living space where projects evolve daily in contact with reality, far from the polish of the showroom. Trained at Istanbul Technical University, she moved to Milan to deepen her design methodology at the Politecnico and Domus Academy, then spent formative years at Claudio Bellini’s studio before relocating to Paris to work alongside Philippe Starck. These were years shaped by rigorous discipline and exposure to practices with strong, fully-formed identities. In 2021, she decided it was time to build her own, opening a studio split between Milan and Istanbul. A dual base that mirrors her way of working. Her design language is rooted in the Mediterranean, but filtered through an international precision. Material choices are deliberate, bespoke solutions considered: every detail holds memory and projection in balance, without tipping into nostalgia. Tracing Forward, presented at Milan Design Week 2026, is where this approach crystallises. Spaces to inhabit, objects to touch, experiences to move through. Design as an open field, tactile, direct, unresolved. A signature already in focus. A voice that asserts itself quietly.
