Marie Claire Maison Issue 291

This year, Rüya Akyol moved part of her Milan-based studio to a historic building in Karaköy. After spending six years at Claudio Bellini’s studio in Milan, she worked with Philippe Starck in Paris, during which she had the opportunity to be involved in all stages of projects for well-established companies like Kartell, Glas Italia, and Flos. So far, the designer has worked with brands such as Fontana Arte, Natuzzi, Pedrali, Alloso, Lara Bellini, and VitrA, and is currently collaborating with Ersa Furniture. She views design from a holistic perspective, and in her studio, where she works on product, furniture, and interior design projects, she summarizes her approach with the following words:

“My design philosophy is based on evaluating a product not only on its own but also within the context of the collection and brand it belongs to, creating more homogeneous and clear brand identities.”
